Workshop ‘Working with Cultural Heritage’ within the SkillFoster Project

On 27 November 2024, the second workshop of the series “Working with Cultural Heritage” was held within the SkillFoster project Heritage Matters: Fostering Cultural Awareness and Professional Development.
Dr Boyana Mincheva, expert on old-printed books, introduced the participants of the workshop to the history of world printing and its different periods in the Latin and Cyrillic tradition. The exhibition was illustrated by the presentation of individual copies of incunabula, first printings and old printings from the collections of the Natonal Library St. St. Cyril and Methodius. In hands-on activities on the identification of Slavonic Cyrillic old printed books and early Latin-language editions, participants gained an initial orientation and skills to date them, determine their content and physical characteristics. A free discussion outlined the main opportunities for acquiring specialized knowledge in this interdisciplinary field. The forum provided an environment for a conscious perception of the value of literary and documentary heritage for the cultural and national identity of societies.
